Selma Barker's nine year old sons James and Edwin attend Discovery, Experience, Arts, a project delivered in partnership by Musical Keys, CME, Norfolk Music Works and Norfolk Music Services.

Shai, 16, Holt Youth Project

Shai, 16, left school with little hope of getting a job, due to her Aspergers - a condition which causes difficulties in social interaction. Shai, who lives in Cromer, a small town in rural Norfolk, had problems communicating her feelings and found it hard to mix with other people.

Shai got involved with CME last September at Holt Youth Project, where she was volunteering. Together with other young people attending the project, she formed a band, playing drums for the first time.

Chris, 16, Bad Dog Rock Participant

Bad Dog Rock was a band skills workshop for students who are on the Key Stage 4 Engagement Programme. Weekly sessions ran during term time for two and half hours. The aim was to engage young people who were not on the main curriculum in school, offering personalised learning leading to a qualification.

Chris was referred to Bad Dog in September 2008, following several months of very poor attendance at school. He said he didn't have any friends and wasn't interested in the lessons so just stopped going.

Noreen, 64, UK Online participant

Noreen admits she felt "terrified'' of computers until she came along to CME's UK Online Centre.

Now she regularly emails friends and family and uses the internet at her local library.

Noreen, a retired art teacher from Norwich, was put off computers 15 years ago after attending an unsatisfactory IT course which she says left her feeling "pretty useless"
